“By the end of active addiction I had become two people, and these two people felt so far apart so I didn’t know who I was, I felt so lost in identity. There was this addict who was loud and obnoxious. Then there was this broken me who didn’t want to talk to anyone, didn’t want to see anyone, a total introvert, an isolated mess of a human.”
Active addiction is a subject not everyone is familiar with, it is an illness and a disease that has a light shone brightly upon it in this video. In this two part conversation as part of her Fishing For The Truth series, Nia hears from Nick Hayes about his own experience with addiction and the dark places it led him to. Almost 3 years clean and sober at the time of recording, his is a vital story that needs to be heard and shared so it can raise awareness and potentially help others.

Nick on Fishing for the Truth
I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Nia for her YouTube show ‘fishing for the truth’ - we spoke on my experience through addiction into recovery - Talking to Nia is like talking to a friend or family member you have known your whole life, she made me feel relaxed enough to open up & speak truthfully on a subject very close to my heart. With Nia I was able to tell my story with ease & articulate clearly. Her empathy, compassion & understanding make interviewees feel safe & able to speak from the heart. Nia helped keep the conversation ‘on track’ & sympathise through sharing her own thoughts & experiences. I feel a sense of clarity & peace being in Nia’s presence. It is always a joy to talk with Nia , I leave a conversation with her having felt like I have learned something more about myself & the world at large - she is soup for the soul.
